Dykes, Disability and Stuff A quarterly newsletter expressly devoted to the health and disability concerns of lesbians. US-based.

Sick Chicks and Twisted Sisters A feminist website by and for disabled women and girls. Includes fiction, poetry, information and links. Welcomes submissions from disabled women including transsexual women.

Deaf Women Against Violence The key focus of DWAV is to provide support and empowerment to Deaf women and children who are victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, through a wide range of services. We are committed to changing attitudes that foster and perpetuate violence. Our purpose is to communicate to Deaf women and children that they can make choices to take control of their lives, and to make available to them the support they need to proceed on the path towards healing. US-based.

Metrolinks For lesbian and bisexual women experiencing mental ill health or emotional distress. Includes message board, chat room, information and links.

Take Back the News An independent media project that counters the mis-representation of rape by the mainstream media. It is a haven for survival stories told in survivor's own, un-edited words. It is an opportunity for the public to gain insight into the realities of rape, in hopes of opening hearts and minds, and inspiring action.

National Centre for Independent Living (NCIL) This website is designed to be a resource on independent living and Direct Payments for disabled people and others working in the field.

Disability Alliance The Alliance was set up in 1974. Our principal aim is to relieve the poverty and improve the living standards of disabled people.

Dial UK A national organisation for a network of 140 local disability information and advice services run by and for disabled people. Last year DIALs helped over a quarter of a million disabled people.Contains details of local advice centres.

disabilityWORLD.com Established in 1999 by William and Don McQueen. We have been working since then to setup a comprehensive directory of information and web sites for the disabled.

The Disability Information Trust A registered charity that specialises in the assessment and testing of disability equipment and the publication of independent, verified and in-depth information on that equipment.

Cue & Review Recording Service A national talking newspaper group supplying a range of 22 different newspapers and magazines in audio format for the visually and reading impaired. Our tape-based service is totally free of charge to our listeners regardless of the number of tapes a listener chooses to reveive. We have recently launched a web-based extension to our service enabling our listeners to log onto the site and download a title of their choice in MP3 format direct to their home PC. There is a minimal charge for this service to cover the costs incurred in providing it.

Disability History

Radar's Holiday Guide The online version of the popular print guide, with a search engine that allows people to check the accessibility of their destination before travelling.

Disability Equipment Register The largest source of used equipment in the UK.

DisabilityInformation.com A new site aiming to be the best resource for anyone looking for information on disability in the UK. Includes details of services offered by disabled people's organisations, such as information, counselling, housing, technical aids and adaptations, personal assistance, transport and physical access. There is also information on holidays, leisure, social security benefits, legislation and events.

eQuipForLife.org.uk is a new web site dedicated to helping disabled people and their families buy and sell used disabled equipment. The free service is directed at empowering people to take control of their situation, by getting access to the right equipment for their condition, at an affordable price and thereby offering them the potential to live a more independent and satisfying life. eQuip For Life is a non-profit organisation which has been established with National Lottery Funding. The project derives from my own experience of suddenly being confined to a wheelchair and having the expense and emotional trauma of adapting the house and car etc. whilst adjusting to a reduced income.


Europe

European Disability Forum Containing comprehensive information about European action on disability rights and a detailed European links section.

Media and Disability A new website from the European Disability Forum following the Media and Disability Congress held in Athens last June. The site includes information on the Congress (the programme, the list of participants, speeches and presentations, pictures), the Media and Disability Declaration, latest news and useful links. (Some of the pages are still under construction). It wants to become a tool for the exchange of information and best practices, and therefore, EDF want your help and expertise to feed it. European Congress on People with Disabilities From 20 to 23 March 2002, within the framework of Spain's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the "European Congress on People with Disabilities" is to be held in Madrid. During these four days, over 400 participants representing every social sector, and from different European and Latin American countries will meet in Spain's capital city. The "European Congress on People with Disabilities" was conceived with the purpose of serving as a forum to analyse, debate, propose and promote new community policies that will make it possible to advance a new model for the full social inclusion of people with disabilities in Europe.

The European Women's Lobby The European Women's Lobby (EWL) is the largest co-ordinating body of national and European non-governmental women's organisations in the European Union (EU), with over 3000 member associations in the 15 Member States. The EWL's goal is to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and to serve as a link between political decision-makers and women's organisations at EU level.

Mental Health Europe Contains information on the organisation, projects, position papers, and events, together with a discussion forum.

National Disability Arts Forum Information on disability arts activities throughout the UK, wth comprehensive links to disability arts organisations’ and artists’ websites.

Artsline London’s arts access information service for disabled people.

London Disability Arts Forum Information on disability arts activities in London. Also contains the website for Disability Arts in London (DAIL) magazine.

Northern Disability Arts Forum Serving Cumbria, Durham, Northumberland, Teesside and Tyne & Wear, Nordaf seeks to empower disabled people through the promotion of disability arts and culture.

North West Disability Arts Forum Information on disability arts activities in the North of England.

Adorn, Equip Unique online version of a unique touring exhibition, where disabled people have joined with artists and craft makers to produce "couture" versions of disability aids and equipment.

Shape Includes information about training, workshops, educational and participatory disability arts activities, along with notices of special events and job opportunities.

Stalking Histories You can browse the gallery for disability arts work, post what you think of it on the notice board, chat or hold meetings in the artists' forum, meet new people to swap ideas and dream up new projects. Stalking Histories wants new work to post in the gallery space from both experienced and new disabled artists. They even want to help you get started if you are an individual or group that hasn't shown work before. They would also like to support experienced artists who are creating new work and forming new collaborations.

MadNOTBad Provides a safe space for mental health system users/survivors to share their experiences, opinions and creative talents. Created by Rachel Studley, the site encourages users/survivors to add their artwork.

Blackwomen.co.uk Managed by the organisation Black Women in the Arts (BWA).

Black Filmmakers Magazine Online version of this bi-monthly magazine.

Black History.com A website dedicated to our history as Black people.

Unity A unique project set up to work with black and minority ethnic women and girls of all ages in Oxfordshire.

London Health Contains a list of organisations serving minority ethnic communities. Mainly London-based, but it also includes national phonelines and contacts in community languages.

Diverse Minds Information for Black and Minority Ethnic users and survivors of the mental health system.


Lesbian Sites

Regard National organisation for disabled lesbians, bisexuals and gay men.

Kenric Social organisation for lesbians, established over 30 years with over 1500 members in the UK and overseas.

Lesbian UK Aims to act primarily as a database of information for lesbians about local activity, events and resources in their area.

Women's Aid National organisation providing refuges and advice for women experiencing domestic violence. Now has information for women in Braille, large-print and on audio tape in addition to standard print resources.

Women’s Health

Women’s Health Provides health information on gynaecological health issues such as heavy bleeding, fibroids, hysterectomy, the menopause and HRT, pelvic inflammatory disease and ovarian problems. Women’s Health is a national voluntary organisation and is independent of the NHS and private companies.

E-Womens Health US-based website with information on gynaecological health issues plus general information on how the difference in biology between women and men affect both symptoms and treatment of many diseases.

WSSLINKS Women and Gender Studies Web Sites The purpose of WSS Links is to provide access to a wide range of resources in support of Women’s Studies. US-based but international.
